The Library/Resource Center at Chaparral College is a
place where every student can increase his/her abilities and
knowledge. The Library/Resource Center contains books, periodicals,
CD-ROM collections, DVDs, computer programs, and videos that are
specifically selected to supplement and enhance the programs offered
at Chaparral College. A full-time, professional librarian is on
staff to facilitate the development of the library resources and to
help faculty and students fully utilize the Library/Resource Center
materials.
Because every student progresses at his/her own pace
in different subjects, the College provides a place for
individualized study and instruction. Students are given the
opportunity for challenges when they have completed regular course
work--while other students may need a little extra-personalized help
at times. The Library/Resource Center serves both needs.
Library/Resource Center hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Monday through Thursday. Other hours may be scheduled as needed.
Chaparral College provides
text books as indicated on College course syllabi. While the student
will keep some of the books provided, others will be distributed to
the student on a loan basis.
A student lounge is conveniently located to provide
inside seating for students wishing to relax during breaks from
academic activities. An outside Ramada seating area is also
available to encourage enjoyment of Tucson’s climate.
The College invites
students to participate in a variety of on-campus clubs. In
addition, Chaparral College encourages students to join professional
organizations in their chosen career field.
The Chaparral College newsletter is published
five times a year. The newsletter's objective is to inform the
Chaparral community of events that have occurred on campus and those
planned for the near future. Newsletter articles may also include
information from the various departments, stories submitted by
students, current events, and seasonal holiday news.
The business office is
open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:30
a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday. Campus hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Friday.
Students will be called out
of class for emergency phone calls only. Students may give the
College phone number to their day care provider or child's school.
Two pay phones are located in the Student Lounge for use by the
students.
All cell phones are to be turned off in classrooms and
labs at all times unless permission is granted for emergencies.
All students are urged to read
the bulletin board in the Student Lounge daily. Student information
and general information will be posted. Additional bulletin boards
inform students of part-time job opportunities, Substance Abuse and
Counseling Information, and for the convenience of students,
personal notes such as needing a ride, items for sale, church
bazaar, etc. Before posting a personal item, please place the date
posted on the item and clear it with the front desk.
Chaparral College has a
permanent and total commitment to maintain a drug-free campus. We
ask each student and employee to make a personal commitment to
maintain a drug-free campus for themselves and their colleagues.
All of the buildings on the
Chaparral College campus are smoke/tobacco-free areas. Individuals
wishing to smoke may do so in restricted areas of the Ramada, well
away from building entrances. Students are asked to use the ashtrays
provided.
Ample parking is available on campus
and on the streets within easy walking distance of classrooms.
Chaparral Travel, a division
of Chaparral College, is a full-service travel agency located at the
south end of campus and is open to students and the public.
The actual decision as to who will be hired rests
with the employer, who is influenced by attendance records,
technical skills, character and personality traits, a favorable
appearance, and an ability to converse easily and convincingly. An
accurate record of student progress in college is kept in the
Registrar’s Office.
From the date of entry, the student begins to "write
his/her own recommendation" for a position. The students’ education,
combined with development of attractive personal qualities, and the
acquisition of a business-like attitude all affect employability.
Although no college can honestly guarantee placement,
Chaparral College provides lifetime employment assistance for
graduates. Chaparral College has an excellent history of graduate
placement.
Part-time
employment assistance is available to all in-house students.
Students are notified of part-time employment opportunities through
the use of a bulletin board located in the hall across from the
Employment Services Director’s office. Students are required to
complete an initial interview with the Employment Services
Department. Part-time employment is not necessarily geared to the
student's course of study.
Graduation exercises are held approximately
twice a year. All graduates are encouraged to attend and celebrate
the successful completion of their program of study. Graduates are
also encouraged to invite their family and friends to attend the
ceremony. There is no cost to participate in this activity.
